When you think of Halloween, our minds go straight to trick-or-treating and dressing up in funky costumes. These are great, but there’s so much more you can do! Get the whole family involved in the spirit of October with these fun activities from IKEA.
1. Scavenger hunt
Played outside or indoors, a scavenger hunt is fun either way. Think up clever clues, place them around the house, and have a fun surprise waiting for the winners at the end!
2. Mini Pumpkin doughnuts
Everyone loves sweet treats, and what better way to enjoy some Halloween excitement than by making pumpkin-shaped, bat-shaped or even spider-shaped doughnuts?
For this, you will need:
- Powdered donuts (lots of them!)
- Orange candy melts (you can use orange frosting as well)
- Candy eyes
- Green M&M’s
How to make them:
- Melt the candy melts (as directed on the package) and spoon it onto the donuts. Or frost the tops of the donuts with it, using the back of a spoon to spread it.
- Finally, top your creation with two candy eyes, and use a green M&M for a stem!
3. Bob for apples
Bobbing for apples used to be a popular Halloween activity back in the day! Why not revive it in your own backyard with the family? All you need is a large tub, water, and some fresh apples to get the giggles and bobbing going!
4. Halloween decorations
Turn decorating into a fun activity and get the kids involved. From banners and signs to ghost-shaped lanterns, you can make amazing DIY decorations with the whole family, the night before Halloween. It will be the perfect kind of spooky fun!
5. Haunted house
You don’t need to visit a haunted house, just turn your own home into one! Involve the whole family in some outdoor decorating and create a spooky spectacle, complete with wreaths, spiders, pumpkins, flashy lights and jacks-in-the-box.
6. Movie marathon
There’s no shortage of amazing Halloween movies which are always fun to watch. Spend a weekend watching classics full of magic spells, haunted houses, and murder mysteries. All this suspense is the perfect way to get into the Halloween spirit!
7. Paint your pumpkins
Carving pumpkins is cool but why not paint them too? Your jack-o-lanterns would be pretty and the family member who paints the best one could win a treat, making it a fun little competition for everyone!
